Meaux Abbey

Founded in 1151 by William le Gros Meaux Abbey was a Cistercian abbey. The Monks from this Abbey founded the City of Hull in 1193 which they required as a port for the export of wool from the estate. The Abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1539 during the dissolution of the monasteries.
