aerial photograph of Camber Castle East Sussex England UK
One of Henry VIII's coastal defence forts the tower was constructed in 1512-14 with the outer bastions added 1539-44. Although militarily strong it was not able to defeat the forces of nature and it was rendered useless by the silting up of the River Camber, being finally abandoned in 1637.
