aerial photograph of Wroxeter Roman City in Shropshire England UK.
aerial photograph of Wroxeter Roman City in Shropshire England UK. Known as Viroconium Cornoviorum in roman times, it was the 4th largest Roman Town in Britain and home to some 15000 people. The large wall you can see in the photograph is the remains of the Basilica and is the largest piece of free-standing Roman wall in England. The town was abandoned some time after the Romans left Britain with evidence of occupation ceasing after the 8th Century.
