Magdalen College, Oxford from the air

Magdalen College was founded in 1458 by the Bishop of Winchester.The Great Tower was built 1492 - 1509 and designed by William Orchard who also designed the Cloister ( Great Quad ) which was constructed in 1474 to 1480. The "new building" at the back was added in 1733 and was originally intended to be part of a quad, however the rest was never built so it remains unquaded nearly 300 years later. C. S. Lewis who wrote the The Chronicles of Narnia had his room in this building when he was a Fellow of Magdalen College.
