Wilton Windmill Wiltshire
aerial photograph of Wilton Windmill Wiltshire England UK. The Fantail windmill opened in 1821 to replace watermills which were no longer possible when the River Bedwyn was turned into the Kennet and Avon Canal. The mill was used for 100 years before falling into disuse. The Grade II listed Mill was restored to working order again in 1976 by the Wiltshire Historic Buildings Trust and is today run by the Wilton Windmill Society who produce flour for local shops. The mill uses a fan tail to turn into wind and is equipped with two canvas sails and two Patent Sails which have a series of closable wooden slats.
