aerial photograph of Carnforth coaling tower Lancashire UK. The Grade II listed Carnforth Coaling Tower was built in 1938-1944 for the London Midland Scottish Railway and closed in 1968. Carnforth was the last British Rail depot to close to steam locomotives and the tower is a rare survivor being the only intact coaling tower in England.
