The fort was in use until around the Roman withdrawal with evidence for occupation until 369AD. The fort is surrounded by a vicus which is the civilian settlement which grows up around a fort. The Roman Name of the fort is uncertain which suggestions it may have been called Alavana , Alone or Medibogdo
