The remains that show are all that is left of Carbrooke Preceptory. Run by the Knights Hospitallers the preceptory was founded in 1193 and functioned until it was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1540. The site contained a moat, several fishponds and various buildings.The site had been previously occupied since Saxon times.
