aerial photograph of the Cowes Floating Bridge Isle of Wight. Opened in 1859 this chain ferry is still the only way for road traffic across the river. A chain ferry operates by pulling itself accross using a chain. This vessel is simply called "No 5 " and its been pulling its chain since 1975.
