Architect was George Woodhouse and the mill cost £141,000 to built, a huge sum in the late 19th century and equivillent to around £16 m today. Spinning ceased in 1954 after which the building was operated by Great Universal Stores until 2006 when it was acquired by Wigan College of Technology.
