aerial photograph of Dumpdon Camp hillfort , Dumpdon Hill, Devon England UK. Dumpdon Camp is a multivallate hillfort dating to the Iron Age ( multivallate - one with multiple concentric ramparts ). Dumpdon Camp is probably contemporaneous with the nearby Hembury hill fort which lies just 6km away. The fort covers around 2.6ha and is univallate on the East and West sides but bivallate on the Northern side which covered the single entrance was situated on the North east corner. The western ramparts are much less distinct leading some to suggest that perhaps the fort was never completed. To date, archaeological excavations within the fort have not discovered any evidence that the fort was ever occupied, however the quote Time Team's Mick Aston, "the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence" so there may yet be discoveries to be made.
