Lofthouse interchange - the intersection of the M1 and M62 motorways
aerial photograph of the Lofthouse interchange - the intersection of the M1 and M62 motorways in Yorkshire UK. Built between 1965 and 1967, the structure is a major engineering achievement working on three levels with all parts designed to absorb movement. The Piers are 12m high and the bridges 128m long. In 1999 two tunnels were constructed beneath the original junction to speed the flow of traffic traffic traveling between the M1 north and the M62 west.
