RAF Elvington airfield

aerial photograph of Stamford Bridge, Yorkshire , England UK. Site of the famouse battle in 1066 when King Harold defeated the invading army of King Harald Hardrada of Norway. The town was also the site of the Roman Settlement and fort of "Derventio" which lies just to the south of the present village. Derventio was first discovered after crop marks showed up in aerial photographs taken in the drought of 1976.
