aerial photograph of Perrott's Folly Birmingham. Constructed in 1758 by John Perrott, in what was then Rotton Park the tower was used as as a weather Observatory from 1884 until 1979. It is rumored that JRR Tolkein drew inspiration from the tower while writing Lord of the Rings.
