Bath Abbey from the air

Bath Abbey was founded as a Benedictine monastery in the 7th century and rebuilt in the 12th & 16th centuries with a Victorian restoration by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the 19th century. Following the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII the Church was for a period abandoned and its lead roof removed. Elizabeth I saw to it the church was restored and became the Parish Church of Bath.
