aerial photograph the Newark Castle Nottinghamshire England UK. Built in the 13th Century by the Bishop of Lincoln , Newark and its castle was heavily fought over during the English Civil War. The town of Newark held firm against besieging Parliamentarians until Charles ordered its surrender in 1646 after which the castle was slighted leaving it in the condition we see today.
