aerial photograph of Snettisham Norfolk England UK
aerial photograph of St. Mary's Church, Snettisham Norfolk England UK. much of what we see today dates from the 14th Century although the dramatic Spire is a 19th Century Victorian addition. Originally the Church was much bigger with a large Chancel which was demolished in the 17th century, the gap being walled up with the large window you see in the photograph. The north transept has also been demolished and originally the building would have had a cruciform ground plan rather than the L shaped footprint we see today. The building also suffered extensive damage after being bombed by a Zeppelin in 1915.
