aerial photograph of Branodunum Roman Fort at Brancaster Norfolk England UK
aerial photograph of Branodunum Roman Fort at Brancaster Norfolk England UK.Branodunum was one of the Saxon shore forts built around 230AD to defend against raiding Saxons. The Fort was manned by a cohort of Dalmatian Cavalry. In Roman times the sea came right up to the walls of the fort on the right hand side of the photograph.Large parts of the walls survived right up until the 17th century but were subsequently robbed of stone leaving just the faint outline you see in the photograph. The site was visited by TVs much missed Time Team program in 2013.
