aerial photograph of the George's Dock Ventilation and Control Station, Pier Head, Liverpool which provides ventilation for the Queensway Tunnell under the River Mersey.The tunnel and its iconic ventilations towers were built 1925–1934 with Sir Basil Mott designing the tunnel and architect Herbert James Rowse being responsible for the ventilation towers.When the Mersey tunnel opened in 1934 it was the world's longest road tunnel.
