aerial photograph of Ardwick Manchester England UK showing the area around Hyde Road and its intersection with Devonshire Street and Devonshire Street North. In the foreground are Manchester College Nicholls Campus and the Stagecoach Depot. Also in the photo is the railway junction between the London and North Western Railway joins the Great Central Railway. The line was originally constructed by the Manchester and Birmingham Railway in 1840 and they then merged with the LNWR in 1846. The line originally terminated at Travis Street, but in 1842 what is now Picadilly station opened ( top of photo ) The line to Sheffield was built by the Sheffield, Ashton-Under-Lyne and Manchester Railway also in 1842. This included a Station at Arwick in the lower right of the photo.
