Opened in 1972 the junction is the intersection of the M6 motorway and the Aston Expressway A38(M) but soon earned the nickname Spaghetti Junction. It took 4 years to build and occupies a historic transport intersection at the meeting point of the Tame Valley Canal, Grand Union Canal and Birmingham and Fazeley Canal which now run underneath the motorway.
