aerial photograph of Beauchief Abbey, Sheffield,South Yorkshire, Great Britain, UK. Beauchief Abbey was a Premonstratensian monastary that was founded in AD1183 and dissolved by Henry VIII during the English Reformation in 1537. Following the Abbey's dissolution it was mined for stone and fell into ruin, however the Abbey Tower remained intact and during the 17th century a small chapel was added to the rear so that it could be used as a church. This reuse allowed the building to survive to present times and it is now a scheduled ancient monument.
