aerial photograph of Arundel Castle West Sussex. The Castle was built by Roger de Montgomerie in 1067 immediately after the Norman conquest. The castle was extensively damaged during the Civil war when it was first besieged and taken by the Royalists and then later retaken by the Parliamentarians. The castle restored and remodeled in the 18th and 19th century with much work done for a visit by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1846.
