aerial photograph of the Jewellery Quarter station Birmingham, West Midlands . Opened in 1995 the station is one of very few new stations to have been added to the UK rail network in recent years. The station is adjacent Hockley No 2 Tunnel which can also be seen in the photo. The Hockley Tunnels were constructed in 1854 by the Great Western Railway and carried both standard gauge and broad gauge traffic. They became redundant in 1972 but were reopened in 1995.
