aerial photograph of Victoria Station Manchester , England UK showing the new £17 million roof made from ETFE ( Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene ) , new platforms, electrification and Metrolink tram station. The station was originally built by the Manchester and Leeds Railway (M&LR) , designed by George Stephenson and opened in 1844. At one point the station possessed Europe's longest platform when one of the platforms merged into the adjacent Exchange Station in 1929, however this claim to fame ended when Exchange Station closed in 1969. Part of the station roofing was damaged by bombs in 1940, during the second world war and not replaced until the new roof was constructed in 2014...
