The former Station was the Manchester end of the Manchester to Liverpool railway opened in 1830 making it the worlds first railway built for passenger use and this station the oldest surviving station in the world. The site is now used by the Museum of Science and Industry. Currently the station is still connected to the main rail network but this connection will be severed shortly with the construction of the Ordsall Chord. The Ordsal Chord is a rail link between Piccadilly and Victoria stations which will run accross the bottom of the image.
