Pleasley Colliery
aerial photograph of Pleasley Colliery Derbyshire England Great Britain. Constructed in 1873 by William Nightingale ( Father of Florence Nightingale ) the pit produced coal for a hundred years until it was finally closed in 1986. Since then it has been opened as a museum and has preserved the two Headstocks and inside the Grade II listed engine house are two steam engines dating from 1922 and 1904. The surrounding land has been turned into a nature reserve and the adjacent disused railway lines are now cycle tracks.
