aerial photograph of Skelmore Heads univallate Bronze Age / Iron Age Hillfort near Great Urswick Cumbria England UK. occupying a natural defensive position the hill fort only needed a ditch on the northern side which was traversed by a causeway with a 2m wide entrance. Excavations have revealed evidence of a palisaded defences. Bronze Age pottery has also been found and to the north of the site lies Great Urswick Long Barrow which dates from the Neolithic period.
