Grade I listed Combermere Abbey was founded as a Savigniac Monastery around AD 1130 and dissolved by Henry VIII in 1538 during the English Reformation. After dissolution the Abbey buildings were sold to Sir George Cotton who remodelled the site as a country mansion. The house was continually modified through the next 3 centuries cumulating in a Gothic revival make over in the 19th century. Today the Abbey is still in private hands and has become one of the top wedding venues in Cheshire , winning numerous awards..
